It’s official: five months after it started, SWIF Athletics’ member, Sue Seiff’s campaign to reach 50K ended successfully…complete with friends, a 50-candled cookie cake, rain, and of course, champagne!
As you may have read in the previous SWIF blog post, Sue, who had never run a road race before, decided to challenge herself to run 50K (ten 5Ks) in the five months leading up to her 50th birthday.
On August 28, Sue, joined by a group of her friends and family, ran her 10th 5K around her Hampton Township neighborhood. The race began with perfect running weather but ended some 30+ minutes later in a heavy downpour. No one seemed to mind because the post-race activities included a full breakfast and mimosas. Oh, and there was some drama: a call from the fire department when the 50 candles on her cake set off the fire alarm — true story.
“I can’t imagine a better way to turn 50,” Sue said. “A BIG Thank You to my friends, family and SWIF trainers for their friendship and support…I feel really lucky; 50 ain’t so bad after all.”
